Hij heeft meegeholpen een dijk door de Dollard aan te leggen tussen Finsterwolde en het voormalige Palmar. Als volmacht van Oostwold komt in een dijkbrief van het Oldambt van 16 febr. 1441 Hemme Ubekens voor. Als Hemmo Ubekens compareert hij als volmacht voor het Oldambt op 20 mei 1454. De oratio die de betrokken overeenkomst aanhaalt noemt hem Hemmo Huninga, terwijl met hem dan voorkomen o.m. Ailco Weynga, Febo en Tyacko Poptada en Dodo Tiddinga.
In 1441 worden genoemd o.m. Remco Gogkynghen (Gockinga) te Noordbroek, Ebele Huwerdes (Houwerda?); elders wordt Luwerdes gelezen, te Meeden, Ailke Ungyngha (= Weynga) te Eexta, Ype Kampinga (=Camminga?) te Scheemda en Tyacke Popta (=Poptada) te Scheemda.
In het midden van de 15e eeuw blijken de Huninga 's, evenals reeds ca 1400, dus gegoed te zijn in Oostwold..
