Notes about Marinus Jacob van Riet

Hij werd geboren te Goes op 3 april 1879. Marien was molenbouwer (molenmaker) van beroep. Hij leerde het vak tot in de kleinste details van zijn vader. In zijn loopbaan is hij één keer van de 'galderie' van de molen van Baarland gevallen en ernstig gewond geraakt, maar gelukkig kwam alles weer goed. Hij had zijn werkplaats aan de Lange Vorststraat in Goes. Van de restjes hout werden sjoel- of damschijven gemaakt. Hij bleef tot op hoge leeftijd actief. Als 80-jarige restaureerde hij nog de oude molen in Colijnsplaat. Hij trouwde te Goes op 8 maart 1900 met, Johanna Melse, die geboren was te Goes op 1 september 1879, als dochter van Dingenis Melse (koemelker) en Jacoba Slabbekoorn.

Marinus overleed te Goes op 12 oktober 1962.

Johanna overleed eveneens te Goes op 11 november 1973.
