Hij werd geboren te Goes op 19 mei 1852. Hij was van beroep molenbouwer. Hij nam het bedrijf van zijn vader over. Hij trouwde op 4 mei 1877 te Goes met Jacomina Maria Ossewaarde, die geboren was te Kattendijke op 18 april 1850, als dochter van Marinus Ossewaarde, schipper en Neeltje Kerpel (geboren in 1821 te Fijnaart). Gerrit overleed te Goes op 9 juni 1916. Jacomina volgde hem op 4 juli 1927.
