The families had a distant inter marriage event when Raijnilda vdGrootevheen's widowed husband married a Kuijer whose brother was an in-law of the cardinal's older brother. I emailed mum back in 2012 to explain:

your grandfather Simon Richard's father was named Joannes van de Grootevheen, son of Rijk Jansen van de Grootevheen and Alijdis Jansen van de Winsenburg.

Rijk Jansen had 9 children, and two of them were called Joannes, 4 years apart.
He also had a daughter Raijnilda van de Grootevheen.
Raijnilda married Hendrik van Ruitenbeek in Nijkerk 02-05-1866
She died 2 years later 1 oct 1868.
Hendrik van Ruitenbeek then married Aaltje Kuier in 1871
Aaltje Kuijer had an older Brother Aart Kuijer who was married to Catharina Blom
Aart had a daughter Antonia Johanna Kuijer who was married to Jacobus Alfrink
Jacobus Alfrink was Cardinal Bernardus Johannes Alfrink's older brother.

So Oma would have said that after tante Raijnilda van de Grootevheen died, her widowed husband married Aaltje Kuijer, whose brother was the Cardinal's older brother's father-in-law.

Event shared with Theodorus Johannes Alfrink (Witness), Petrus Bernardus Alfrink (Witness), Bernardus Johannes Alfrink (Witness)
