OBITUARY: - PEETERS, Martin In his 96th year, passed peacefully with family at his side at Mississauga Trillium Hospital on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Beloved husband of Mary (deceased, 2009) for 61 years.
Martin and Mary immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1953. Eventually, they settled in Oakville, Ontario where they raised their five children and Martin pursued his career as a professional engineer. Martin had a passion for cycling and woodworking - activities in which he engaged until his late 80s. Over the course of his life, Martin became fluent in five languages.
His determination, in his 70s, to develop musical skills exemplifies his lifelong commitment to learning. He had many interests, but the issues associated with economic inequality, social justice and preservation of the environment, were particularly close to his heart.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the professional and compassionate staff on the orthopedic wing of Mississauga Trillium Hospital for the care extended to our father. The family of Martin Peeters will receive family and friends at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 noon. Interment will follow at St. Jude's Cemetery.
