Notes about Roosje Polak

Op 25 februari 1944 werd het gezin met transport XXIV/4 van Westerbork afgevoerd naar Theresienstadt, een concentratiekamp ten noorden van Praag. Op dit transport was David volgens het Theresienstaedter Gedenkbuch gevangene no. 81, Joël no. 83 en Siegfried no. 85. Roosje wordt niet genoemd, maar gezien de verdere gebeurtenissen is het aannemelijk dat ook zij tot dit transport behoord heeft.

Na ruim een half jaar in Theresienstadt werd David op 28 september 1944 als gevangene 1543 overgebracht naar Auschwitz in Polen. Zijn zoons volgden een week later op 4 oktober met gevangenennummers 16 en 17. Ook nu is er in het Theresienstaedter Gedenkbuch geen vermelding van Roosje, maar op 6 oktober 1944, dus kort na aankomst in Auschwitz, vond Roosje net als haar beide zoontjes de dood in de gaskamers. Zij was 32 jaar; haar zoontjes zes en vier jaar. Het is goed mogelijk dat zij tot het einde met z'n drieën bij elkaar zijn gebleven, of op z'n minst met hetzelfde transport in Auschwitz zijn aangekomen.
