Klaas Jansz Groot was van oorsprong boer, maar toen zijn vader overleed nam hij diens positie van molenaar op watermolen nr. 9 in de polder Purmer over - zowel zijn vader als grootvader waren molenaars geweest in de Purmer.
Vanaf 8-10-1846 nam Cornelis Kuijper officieel de molenaarstaken over op deze watermolen. Cornelis Kuijper trouwde in 1844 met de jongste dochter Maartje.
