Van 1937 tot 1940 werden betalingen in eenmalige betalingen gedaan waarbij de eerste betaling zeventien cent bedroeg. Na wijzigingen in 1939 werden de betalingen in maandelijkse uitkeringen omgezet en verhoogd. Na verdere wijzigingen in 1950 werden verhogingen van de kosten voor levensonderhoud toegekend aan degene die uitkeringen ontvingen. Van 1950 tot heden worden de uitkeringen jaarlijks verhoogd met de inflatie van de kosten voor levensonderhoud.
