  • (Anecdote) in volgens Ton Vermaas: opa Berg schilde graag aardappelen. Hij was een eenvoudige, vriendelijke, gelovige man. Hij droeg altijd een 3-delig kostuum. Een klokje aan een ketting zat in het borstzakje van zijn vest. Pijp in de mond of in de hand. Hij (en zijn 2 jongere zusters) waren al vroeg wees, dat zijn vader overleed in 1881 was hij pas 4jr. en zijn moeder overleed toen hij 15 was. Zij werden in het weeshuis geplaatst. Na het overlijden van zijn vrouw (Klaasje Gaastra) trok hij in bij dochter Truus. Daar had hij een slaapkamertje. Overdag was hij afwisselend een week bij een van zijn dochters. Hij liep dus elke ochtend van het huis van tante Truus naar het huis van een van zijn dochters en ’s avonds laat weer terug..
