Hubert deed van zich spreken toen hij op 1 februari 1758 hoogstpersoonlijk een schapendief opspoorde. Daartoe deed hij navraag bij een aantal opkopers van huiden en vellen in Maastricht. Bij de derde handelaar had hij al succes. Deze wees een inwoner van Oost-Maarland, die zich niet ver van de kraam ophield, als de dader aan.
Hubert overleed "in zijne woning no. 86 te Gronsveld" Bij zijn dood liet hij de volgende onroerende goederen na (Mem. van Succ. 172 - no 374): "1. 20 are en 9 ca huis met tuin aan het Broek. 2. 16 are en 17 ca akkerland aan den Kerenweg. 3. 8 are en 44 ca akkerland onder den Hotsboom. 4. 8 are en 4 ca akkerland gelegen op den Steyn. 5. 20 are en 9 ca akkerland op de Schijfstraat. 6. 8 are en 4 ca akkerland in het Maasveld. 7. 22 are en 9 ca akkerland in de Wan". Akte was gedateerd op 3 mei 1819.
