Albert volgde de lagere school te Lemselo, had een uitstekend stel hersens maar wilde niet leren. Meester Mulder van deze school zei tegen zijn moeder: 'Als een pak slaag zou helpen kreeg ie het, maar het heeft geen baat!'
Hij werkte van 1932 tot 1936 bij Engberman, Oom Gerard, als boerenknecht om de schuld van de familie af te lossen en ontmoette daar Rika, zijn latere vrouw.
Zijn militaire dienstplicht vervulde hij van 1936 tot 1938 bij de huzaren te Den Bosch. In 1939 werd hij gemobiliseerd naar Zeeland (West Kapelle) en trainde in de winter 1939-1940 op de grachten van Middelburg voor de elfstedentocht. Deelname ging niet door toen zijn maat verstek liet gaan. Albert had daar geen spijt van want het is toen een barre tocht geworden. De oorlog kwam hij door zonder een schot te lossen en hij was het eerst weer thuis van alle jongens uit de buurt.
Vervolgens ging hij werken voor een houthandel/zagerij. Hij vervoerde boomstammen uit het bos naar de zagerij. Albert trok in het najaar met traktor en dorsmachine en een hulp door de buurt voor het dorsen van rogge en haver. In het gevang (onder het gemeentehuis) kwam hij een paar dagen toen er in zijn omgeving teveel rogge in het zwarte circuit verdween. In zijn vrije tijd fungeerde hij als rij-instructeur, gebruik makend van zijn ervaring opgedaan in militaire dienst.
Na de oorlog trad Albert in vaste dienst bij de werktuigenvereniging. Hij bouwde in 1947 het huis in Rossum grotendeels zelf en maaide het riet voor het dak in het Volterbroek. Dat jaar trouwde hij Rika van Benthem, dochter van Joh. A. van Benthem en Joh. H. Veld, buren van Engelbertink te Rossum. Ze kregen vijf kinderen. In 1957 kwam hij in dienst bij de gemeente Weerselo als chauffeur-monteur bij het wegenonderhoud en diende hij te verhuizen naar Weerselo in verband met zijn functie bij de brandweer. Men kon er niet aarden en keerde terug naar Rossum. Daar startte hij als bijverdienste een kuikenmesterij en teelde er appels en peren.
Albert was een allround technicus en tuinier (groenten en bloemen) die veel bedacht en maakte, o.a. een Griekse zuilengalerij voor het huis en prachtige midwinterhoorns, van klein tot vijf meter lang. Hij was een harde werker met vele goede eigenschappen. Zijn eigenzinnigheid zij hem vergeven.
