Notes about Barstiaan 't Hart

De reddingsboot nam een typische plaats in de Brielse gemeenschap in. De bemanning bestond grotendeels uit garnalenvissers. De vissers van Brielle bedienden zich bij de uitoefening van hunne visserij van z.g. ijssloepen: open, zeewaardige zeilboten. De ijssloepen hebben dan ook zeer belangrijke diensten bewezen aan het reddingwezen. Omstreeks 1860 voeren er uit Brielle 5 ijssloepen. In Den Briel was door de Zuid-Hollandse Maatschappij tot Redding van Schipbreukelingen een reddingboot gestationeerd, met welke de ijssloepen in voorkomende gevallen samenwerkten. De reddingsboot droeg de naam 'Rotterdams Welvaren' en had Bas 't Hart als schipper. Het meeste hebben wel de Brielse sloepen gepresteerd. Zij voeren op hunne reddingstochten ook de vlag der Zuid-Hollandsche Maatschappij. De reddingsboot werd tijdens optochten als kostbaar bezit door de straten gereden. ca. 1920
