De getuigen zijn Felix Frederix (32 jaar, voerman, broer van de bruidegom, uit Heusden) en Leonard Vos (40 jaar, werkman, broer van de bruid, van Zolder).Als jonge knaap hielp Gustaaf samen met zijn broers al in het vervoerbedrijf van zijn ouders. Daar raapte hij zijn kennis van en liefde voor paarden. Die liefde voor de dieren is hem zijn hele leven bijgebleven. Na hun huwelijk huurden een huis in de G. Gezellelaan, tegenover 'De Kring' en begon Gustaaf een bierhandel. Vermits de brouwerijen slechts vaten bier produceerden, moesten Gustaaf en Octavie zelf de flessen vullen. De zaken gingen zodanig goed, dat een huis met biermagazijn werd gebouwd. In 1935 verhuisde het gezin naar de Brugstraat, waar Bierhandel Frederix nu nog steeds gevestigd is. Gedurende de Tweede Wereldoorlog zette Gustaaf, samen met zijn zonen Louis en Jozef, een vervoerbedrijf op poten. Vervoer van kolen, vlees en landbouwprodukten, die in natura werden betaald. Ook werden af en toe paarden verhandeld en zelfs een koe werd gekocht. Deze laatste moest gedurende de oorlogsjaren het gezin van melk en boter voorzien.Na de oorlog kwam Gustaaf bij de gemeenteverkiezingen met een eigen partij op. Niettegenstaande er maar vijf zetels van de elf werden behaald, werd hij toch tot schepen verkozen. Gustaaf werd Schepen van Openbare Werken en bleef dit tot 1964. Drie van zijn zonen bleven in de bierbranche, terwijl de vierde het transportbedrijf op nationale en internationale basis verder zette.1'
