    Van zijn ouders erfde hij het woonhuis op Steenpaal en daar bleef hij de rest van zijn leven wonen. Voor de dominee van Nispen trouwde hij op 11 april 1687 en voor de pastoor van Nispen en Essen op 12 april 1689 met Antonia Paessens Laureijs of Theuncke Passiers, die op 8 maart 1666 te Nispen-Essen was gedoopt als dochter van Passchier Laureijs en Adriana Adriaensen Wes. Theuncke werd begraven te Nispen-Essen op 17 juni 1746. Zij en Matthijs hadden acht kinderen gekregen
