    De heren van Beusichem sproten volgens Voet uit het geslacht van de graven van Teisterbant.
    In 742 erfde Diderik, graaf van Kleef, dit graafschap van zijn grootvader, die de laatste der oudste graven van Teisterbant was. Kleef en Teisterbant bleven tot 834 verenigd.
    In dat jaar werd Teisterbant toegedeeld aan Robert, een jongere zoon van graaf Balderik.
    Die Grafen von Teisterbant waren Erbkämmerer des Bischofs von Utrecht und hatten von diesem ihr Land zu Lehen.
    Nachdem sich 741 Graf Dietrich von Kleve mit der Gräfin Ida von Henegau Teisterbant vermählte, wurde er von Karl Martell mit der Grafschaft Teisterbant beliehen. Theoderich was 25 jaar regent.
