    Conan I van Bretagne (944 - Conquereuil, 27 juni 992) was een zoon van Judicael Berengar. In 958 volgde hij zijn vader op als graaf van Rennes en werd in 970 graaf Vannes, dankzij de hulp van bisschop Oscand van Vannes. In 981 versloeg hij Hoël I, graaf van Nantes en hertog van Bretagne, in de eerste slag bij Conquereuil. Daarna was Conan de feitelijke machthebber in Bretagne. Hij verwierf in 990 het graafschap Nantes en noemde zichzelf in dat jaar "Princeps Britannorum", in een schenking aan de abdij van Mont Saint-Michel. Hij werd verslagen door zijn zwager Fulco III van Anjou in de tweede slag van Conquereuil. Zijn rechterhand werd afgeslagen waarna hij zich overgaf, maar hij stierf nog dezelfde dag. Conan is begraven in de abdij van Mont Saint-Michel.

    He was the son of Judicael Berengar and Gerberga, and succeeded his father as Count of Rennes in 970.[1] He assumed the title of Duke of Brittany in the spring of 990 following his attack on Nantes and the subsequent death of Count Alan.[2] In a charter dated 28 July 990, Conan gave the lands of Villamée, Lillele and Passille to Mont Saint-Michel, all of which later became part of the seigneury of Fougères.[3]

    Conan married Ermengarde-Gerberga of Anjou,[a][4] in 973 daughter of Geoffrey I, Count of Anjou and Adele of Vermandois.[1] Conan died fighting against his brother-in-law Fulk Nerra, count of Anjou at the Battle of Conquereuil on 27 June 992.[5] Conan is buried at Mont Saint-Michel Abbey
