    Wichmann I. der Ältere (* um 900; † 23. April 944?) war Graf im Bardengau und Graf in Wigmodien (an der Weser zwischen Bremen und dem nördlichen Hadeln).

    Er gehörte zu den Billungern, jedoch zu einem von König Otto I. benachteiligten Zweig. Obwohl er mit einer Schwester der Königin Mathilde verheiratet war (möglicherweise Bia von Ringelheim), bestellte König Otto I. im Jahr 936 Wichmanns jüngeren Bruder Hermann Billung zum princeps militae in Ostsachsen. Wichmann reagierte, indem er das Heer verließ und sich dem Aufstand des älteren Halbbruders Ottos I. Thankmar anschloss. Wichmann hatte einen weiteren Bruder, Amelung, Bischof von Verden.

    Seine Söhne Wichmann II. und Ekbert der Einäugige, die am Königshof erzogen worden waren, fühlten sich nach seinem Tod 944[1] von ihrem Onkel Hermann Billung um ihr Erbe gebracht und wurden in ihrem Kampf gegen den Onkel und den König zu Rebellen der Ottonen-Zeit.
