    Bernard (ca. 725 - 787) was een halfoom van Karel de Grote en een belangrijk edelman in zijn rijk. Hij was de zoon van Karel Martel en zijn minnares Ruodhaid.

    Bernard was graaf en abt van Saint-Quentin en hofmeier van Austrasië, Neustrië en Bourgondië. Hij was legeraanvoerder van Karel de Grote tijdens de campagne tegen de Longobarden (773 - 774). Bernard leidde zijn leger over de Grote Sint-Bernhardpas, terwijl Karel zelf over de Mont Cenis trok. Door deze omtrekkende beweging werd de verdediging van de Longobarden omzeild en konden de Franken hun koninkrijk eenvoudig veroveren.

    In zijn eerste huwelijk was Bernard getrouwd met een onbekende Frankische vrouw. Hun zoon Adalardus (ca. 751 - 2 januari 826) was een belangrijk politicus onder Lodewijk de Vrome en Lotharius I en abt van Corbie.

    In zijn tweede huwelijk was Bernard getrouwd met een onbekende Saksische vrouw.

    Bernard or Bernhard (born c. 720) was a son of Charles Martel by his mistress Ruodhaid. He is an obscure figure, rising out of the mists only to lead half of the Frankish army in his nephew Charlemagne's Lombard campaign. While Charlemagne led his contingent through the pass of Moncenisio, Bernard led his through the Great St. Bernard Pass.

    He is known to have had two sons both disgraced and prominent in the reign of Charlemagne's son Louis the Pious, and at least 1 daughter
