    Baro terre, voogd van de abdij van Cysoing. Vaandrig van de graaf van Vlaanderen, neemt in 1096 deel aan de Eerste Kruistocht (1095-1099). Deze kruistocht liep via het verzamelpunt Constantinopel door Klein-Azië naar Jeruzalem, dat in 1099 werd ingenomen. De kruisvaarders stichtten het koninkrijk Jeruzalem, de graafschappen Edessa en Tripoli en het vorstendom Antiochië. Hun heerschappij in de Orient werd pas na bijna 200 jaar in 1291 met de val van Tripoli en Akko definitief beëindigd.
