    Adalbert (rond 985 - Melk, 26 mei 1055), de Zegenrijke, uit het geslacht van de Babenbergers was een zoon van markgraaf Leopold I van Oostenrijk en Richwara im Zülpichgau. Hij huwde met Glismod, dochter van graaf Immed IV en Adela van Hamaland en zuster van bisschop Meinwerk van Paderborn, en met Frozza Orseolo (1015-1071), dochter van doge Otto Orsealo van Venetië. Adalbert werd in 1010 graaf in Schweinachgau en in 1011 in Quinzinggau. Hij volgde in 1018 zijn broer Hendrik op als markgraaf van Oostenrijk. Adalbert breidde de oostgrens verder uit en steunde Hendrik III in zijn strijd tegen Hongarije en Bohemen.

    Adalbert (German: Albrecht, c. 985 – 26 May 1055), known as Adalbert the Victorious (German: Albrecht der Siegreiche), was the Margrave of Austria from 1018 until his death in 1055. He was a member of the House of Babenberg.[1]

    Life

    Adalbert the Victorious was the son of Leopold the Illustrious and Richardis of Sualafeldgau. He was married to Glismod of West-Saxony and Frozza Orseolo, who later took the name of Adelheid, the sister of Peter Urseolo of Hungary.[2]

    He extended the eastern border of the then small Ostmark of Bavaria as far as the rivers Morava/March and Leitha and supported King Henry III in his battles against Hungary and Bohemia. He resided in the Lower Austrian Babenberg castle of Melk, where Melk Abbey was to develop later.

    Adalbert died on 26 May 1055 at Melk.
