Arij(en) was een zoon van Maarten Barendrecht Jorisz, landbouwer te Barendrecht.
Arij was landbouwer op de hoeve "Res Nova" aan de Rijksstraatweg 65 te Numansdorp.

Arien Maertens en zijn huisvrouw vertrokken in oktober 1675 met attestatie van Barendrecht naar Heinenoord.
Hij woonde te Heinenoord (1675-1679), was bouwman in Groot-Cromstrijen en schepen van Numansdorp (1704, 1711).

Tussen 1687 en 1696 sloot Aryen Maertense Barendrecht, bouwman wonende in Groot-Cromstrijen, diverse malen een kontrakt af voor huur van land in de vierde kavel in Nieuw-Cromstrijen en in Cromstrijen met het Maassenieuwland bedijkt (= een na bedijking samengevoegde polder). Eenmaal had hij nog te huren weiland reeds omgeploegd tot zaailand. Hij plaatste zijn handtekening.

Maarten Barendrecht, Dirck Roos, getrouwd met Annetie Barendrecht, Jan Roobol, getrouwd met Maria Barendrecht, Arie Jansz. Troost, zowel voor zichzelf als voor Pieter Maartensz. Barendrecht, testamentaire voogden over Lena Barendrecht, tezamen kinderen en erfgenamen van Arien Maartensz. Barendrecht en Lijntje Jansdr. Troost, transporteerden op 16 april 1715 een huis met schuur en melioratie van erf aan ’;den dijck van Nieuw-Cromstrijen, in de buurte genaemt Oude Sluis.
