    Nadat zijn vader is gaan rentenieren zet Cornelis het bedrijf voort. Het is daar een gezellige boel als op vrijdag en zaterdag de paarden- en varkensmarkt op de Dijk wordt gehouden. De deuren naar de achterdeur staan dan open, want de 'boeren hebben ruimte nodig' zegt tante Marie. Anna runt in hoofdzaak het café. Cornelis heeft zijn tuin op Rochdale even buiten de stad. Zijn tuinderij is gelegen aan de Blekersloot en Molentocht, sectie F nr. 164, groot 1 ha 69 a en 60 ca, gekocht in 1912 voor ƒ 5.820,--. Op de tuin wil Cornelis een huis bouwen. Doch de stadsuitbreiding gooit roet in het eten. Het Rochdale-kwartier is in voorbereiding.
