    In 1940 toen de oorlog begon was Cees 16 jaar en in het begin veranderde er voor hem maar weinig.
    Dat werd anders toen hij werd opgeroepen om in Duitsland
    te gaan werken. Dat zag Cees niet zitten en besloot onder te duiken. Zijn vader
    nam de werkzaamheden van de winkel weer op zich. terwijl Cees overdag
    het land van zijn vader werkte of bij verschillenden boeren in de polder'. 's Nachts sliep hij in een van de vele schuurtjes die her en der in de polder op het land stonden. Zo kwam hij in aanraking met andere onderduikers in de polder en mensen uit het verzet. Hem werd gevraagd om bij allerlei activiteiten van het
    verzet te helpen. Onder leiding van Jan Mulder werden verschillende droppings voor afwerpterrein "WINNIPEG" door hun veiligheid gesteld en verborgen.
