    De literatuur geeft als betekenis van de naam Steeman (of Stedeman) eenvoudigweg stadbewoner. Een heel fraaie illustratie van het begrip Steeman vinden we aan de Bloemgracht te Amsterdam. Een grachtenpand, gebouwd in 1642, bestaat uit drie identieke huizen, die de namen ‘De Steeman’, ‘De Landman’ en ‘De Zeeman’ dragen. De drie huizen werden aangekocht door de vereniging ‘Hendrick de Keyser’ en in 1943 fraai gerestaureerd.
