    Josephine, was met haar oudere broer Johann Clemens naar Alkmaar gegaan. Daar dreef zij een eigen manufacturenzaak in een winkelpand aan de westzijde van de Houttil, dat zij in 1877 had aangekocht. Tien jaar later verkocht zij dit pand aan Bernard Berentzen, fabrikant in ijzerwaren te Haselünne, dit ten behoeve van diens minderjarige zoons Ferdinand en Georg Berentzen. In dit pand richtten beide zoons de Firma Gebroeders Berentzen op.
    Later associeerden zij zich met Willem Vroom en Anton Dreesmann. Ferdinand Berentzen werd de eerste directeur van Vroom en Dreesmann te Alkmaar.
