Notes about Antonius (Anton) van den Heuvel

TONY HEUVEL

TONY VAN DEN HEUVEL April 1, 1934 - October 20, 2005 It is with profound sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Tony, husband, father and Opa. After a short battle with lung cancer, he peacefully slipped away surrounded by his beloved wife, Frieda, and his five daughters at the Grace Hospice. Left to mourn his passing is his wife Frieda (Luke) and daughters Karen (Tim) Laing, Simone (Larry) Greening, Teresa (Laird) Ouellette, Anita (Ken) Gingera and Tara (Todd) Frederickson; grandchildren: Megan, Amanda, Ryan, Michelle, Amy, Jana (Laing); Samantha, Aaron, Brendan, Matthew (Greening); Robin, Sean, Jesse, Nathan (Ouellette); Emma, Hannah, Grace (Gingera); Samuel, Luke, Katherine (Frederickson). Tony was born and lived in Eindhoven, Holland with his mother and father, Simon and Maria, and his 10 brothers and sisters. After serving as a sergeant in the Dutch Army, his keen desire to travel brought him to Winnipeg, Canada in his early twenties. He worked various jobs including auditor with Great-West Life; salesman with General Foods, Rogers and Sons and Imperial Life Insurance; and finally General Agent, CPC of Fortis Insurance Benefits. He proudly received his Chartered Life Underwriters in 1995. Tony touched many people's lives with his sincerity, humour and generosity. Tony had a special place in his heart for his son-in-laws who were considered his sons. He was a family man in the truest sense of the word. Tony's legacy for his family was his cottage at Hill's Camp. It has been an ideal location for a yearly family reunion as his five daughters and their families also have cabins there. Tony's hobbies included Tennis, bocci ball, Canasta and fishing. He loved to sing and listen to music. He was a fantastic chef who truly enjoyed the art of entertaining. His deep faith guided him through his life and illness and is what kept his family strong through this trying time. His final wish for his family and friends was to love each other and to follow the path of forgiveness. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at the Grace Hospice. We are so thankful that Tony was able to spend his last days in this beautiful building under your gentle care. Also we would like to extend a thank you to the staff at the Grace General Hospital for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, all those who wish to do so may donate to The Salvation Army Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3R5. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
