Notes about Herman van Ark

Herman van Ark startte in 1951 in een commerciële functie bij Arks Bakkerijen BV, een familiebedrijf dat door drie broers uit de vorige generatie van Ark is opgezet.

Op 82-jarige leeftijd is donderdag overleden Herman van Ark.

Hij was bij zijn leven een prominente inwoner van Heerde, niet alleen vanwege het gegeven dat hij jarenlang als directeur was verbonden aan de Van Ark-bakkerijen, maar ook bekleedde hij in het maatschappelijk leven van Heerde en daarbuiten tal van functies.

De fabrieksmatige beschuitbakkerij startte in de jaren twintig, oorspronkelijk midden in het Heerder dorp, waar nu bakkerij Kamphorst is gevestigd.

Begin dertiger jaren verhuisde het bedrijf naar de huidige locatie in het markante pand aan de Zwolseweg in Heerde. Deze werd later uitgebreid met de fabricage van ontbijtkoek en koekjes. In 1975 onderdeel geworden van de Bolletje onderneming.

Vanaf de jaren zestig werd Van Ark commercieel en weer later algemeen directeur van Arks. Tot zijn 72ste was hij commissaris van Bolletje.

Verder was Van Ark bestuurslid van Verbisko, de landelijke brancheorganisatie voor beschuit, ontbijtkoek en koekjesfabrikanten. Hij leidde in die tijd de CAO-onderhandelingen met werknemersorganisaties.

Voorts was hij voorzitter van de stichting Studiecentrum Zoetwaren.

In de jaren tachtig en negentig was hij vele jaren voorzitter van de Raad van Toezicht van de Rabobank Heerde.

Daarnaast was hij voorzitter van de Jan Nienhuisvereniging, die onder zijn leiding is omgevormd tot een op moderne leest geschoeide vereniging, die subsidies verstrekt aan plaatselijke verenigingen en stichtingen.

Als voorzitter van de plaatselijke scoutingorganisatie realiseerde hij de eerste clubhuizen aan de Kooiweg. Voor al zijn activiteiten ontving hij een koninklijke onderscheiding als Ridder in de orde van Oranje Nassau.
