Sneek - Maaike Hiemstra-Kuipers, de oudste inwoonster van Sneek, is Oudejaarsdag op 102-jarige leeftijd overleden in het Frittemahof in Sneek. Dat heeft haar familie bekend gemaakt via het Sneeker Nieuwsblad.

Mevrouw Hiemstra werd op 8 februari 1903 geboren in Woudsend, maar woonde jaren lang op een boerderij aan de Hemdijk tussen Sneek en IJlst. In 1956 verhuisde ze naar Sneek waar ze tot mei aan de Zwettekade woonde. Mevrouw Hiemstra was sinds 1941 weduwe toen haar man Sijtze S. Hiemstra overleed. Het gezin telde zeven kinderen. Daarvan zijn drie overleden. Twee van haar kinderen emigreerden naar de Verenigde Staten en een ging naar Duitsland. Mevrouw Hiemstra correspondeerde veel met de leden van het Koninklijk Huis. Ze vergat geen verjaardag. Mevrouw Hiemstra is gister begraven op de begraafplaats in Folsgare. De op 1 maart 1905 geboren Houkje Blijstra-Alta mag zich nu de oudste inwoner van Sneek noemen.
