Maria Magdalena (oma Huijgens) beviel op 25 jan 1897 in Anderlecht van Christina Maria Magdalena. De biologische vader is volgens zeggen een belgische heer van adelijke komaf. Deze man wilde trouwen, Maria Magdalena niet en vertrok met kind naar Amsterdam waar zij op 29 juni 1899 trouwde met Johannes Jacobus Melchert Huijgens die haar kind officieel erkende.
Zij was een excentrieke vrouw die met een Panopticum rondtrok. Haar zusters Jansje Wilhelmina (Jans) en Wilhelmina Christina (Mientje) exploiteerden een galanteriekraam op de kermis.
Broer Christiaan had op de kermis een brievenautomaat.
