Haar man Reinier (krengenslager) voer op de koopvaardij aan boord van de Willem III.

Het was zijn honderste rit met diezelfde oude boot toen hij verging in Januari 1893.

Als reinier meevoer kreeg zijn vrouw in Edam 3 gulden per week .

Dit was toch meer dan hij overhield van het krengenslachten.

Het schip voer uit Antwerpen en er is geen splinter van teruggevonden.

Grietje had erop aangedrongen dat hij nog 1 keer mee zou gaan.

Na het vergaan van de Willem III heeft Grietje nooit meer haar huis afgesloten, (misschien kwam hij terug...)
