Newspaper Obituary: Edward Worthen Killed by Auto Edward Worthen, Age 61years, 1 month and 4 days, was hit by an automobile at 6:50 pm, January 1, 1932 while crossing Delmar Ave. in University City, MO, and suffered a fracture of the skull from which he died in the St. Louis County Hospital Sunday January 3, 1932, at 1:00 AM. The remains were brought to this city Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted at the Ava First Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. O.A. Sweckard of Gorham, Ill. following which the remains were laid at rest in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Edward Worthen was born in Levan Twp, this County, Nov. 29, 1870. He lived at the place of his birth until 1897, when he moved to Dry Hill, Kinkaid Twp, this county, were he continued to reside until 1928. He then removed to St. Louis where he resided until death. Mr. Worthen followed farming as a means of making a living while residing in this county. Since removing to St. Louis he has been employed as a night watchman. Mr. Worthen was the son of Harmon and Athaline Worthen, both now deceased. In December 1892, Mr. Worthen and Miss Augusta Bagley were united in marriage. He leaves to mourn his death his widow, two sons, Clyde of Jacob, Ill and Dewey of Cora City, Il; one sister, Mrs. Fred Casey, of East St. Louis, IL; two brothers, Logan Worthen of Gorham, IL and Walter Worthen, of East St. Louis, IL; seven grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Worthen is the second auto victim to be buried in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery since Christmas. The oter victim was Charles Morris Jr. who was killed in East St. Louis and whose body was buried on December 26th, 1931. 1880 Census, Levan Twp living with parents 1900 Census, Kincaid Twp, Wife, Augusta, 2 Children, 2 living
