Notes about Magdelena Ellen Rysdam

OBITUARY: Death claims a Portland woman who crossed the plains in 1864. Mrs. Ellen Eaton, an early Oregon pioneer, died at Cornelius, Oregon Tuesday May 3 aged 67 years 6 mo and 8 days. Mrs. Eaton crossed the plains with her father and her first husband, John Van Rossen, in 1864 locating near La Grande. In 1866, after the death of her first husband, she was married to Thomas J. Eaton of Walla Walla, and shortly after moved to the Willamette Valley. In 1882, they moved to Portland and resided at North Front street until the death of Mr. Eaton in 1891. Mrs. Eaton, in company with her sister, Mrs. G.M. Teal (Taal), of La Grande, climbed Mount Emily in August 1908. Mrs Eaton is survived by five children, all of whom reside in Portland. They are: Arie Van Rossum, Mrs. L.D. Bohn, W.G. Eaton, G.L. Eaton, and Mrs. Anness Bertrand. The funeral will be held from the residence of W.G. Eaton, the date to be announced later (Portland Oregonian Newspaper dated 5 May 1910, p.7).
