Henry attended Oxford University, the Alumni Oxonienses list has this entry: Henry John Cockeram, son of Thomas of Cerne Abbas , Dorset, gent. Wadham College, matric.31 Jan. 1844, aged 19.
When he was married to Margaret Sloper, they lived at Farm House, Ablington, Figheldean (close to Salsbury Plain), henry was described as a farmer of 1,163 acres employing 20 men & 10 boys. H.J.J.'s grandfather had bought Fryer Mayne manor house and land in 1827 and H.J.J. had the house extensively renovated in the 1860's. By 1871, him and family moved into Fryer Mayne manor house in West Knighton. In 1873 H.J.J Cockeram owned 862 acres of land, which brought him in total 870 pounds per year. {excerpt taken from Thea & Francis Clayton's book}.
