OBITUARY published in The Spokesman-Review, Jan. 17, 1925:
AGED MISSIONARY DIES NEAR ADDY
Robert Morrison Hobson Was Born in China and Lived There Many Years.
CHEWELAH, Wash., Jan. 26 -- Robert Morrison Hobson, age 77, died at the home of his son, John Hobson, near Addy.
Mr. Hobson's life was spent in missionary work. He was born at Canton, China, where his father, Dr. Hobson, a medical missionary, was stationed. His grandfather, the Rev. Robert Morrison, was the first Protestant missionary to China and spent 25 years in that field, first learning the language, then translating the whole Bible into Chinese and compiling an English-Chinese dictionary.
When a boy, Robert Hobson was sent to England for education and returned to China in the Chinese foreign customs service. During his life in China, he resided in seven districts, from New Chwang in Manchuria to Amoy, in the south. In 1872, he married Margaret Ann Chalmers, daughter of Dr. Chalmers, another missionary, and three children were born to them. They made eight voyages between England and China, the first of which was made in a sailing vessel around the Cape of Good Hope.
In 1893, Mr. Hobson moved his family to Ontario, Canada, and lived in the provinces until 1920, when he came to the home of his son at Addy. He was stricken with paralysis several years ago. Besides his widow and son at Addy, he is survived by another son, Harry Hobson, Los Angeles, Cal.
