Child(ren):
Smith Sherren was with the 105th Battalion, going overseas with that unit and seeing active service until the end of the war.
After returning he started work with a dredging company which was doing work off Cape Borden. Unfortunately a storm with high winds came and they were forced back to shore. Smith and a co-worker were on a scow being towed when it started sinking. The Captain, fearing for the lives of the other men on the boat, had to cut it loose. It was found that the two men were able to live for some period of time since the compartment was airtight. However they eventually suffocated due to lack of air. When found, their faces were scratched and bruised from them trying to get close to the air pocket at the top. Smith Sherren drowned at Borden, PE in 1945.
