Notes about John Houston George Cossey (PVT)

John H. Cossey served as a private in Company F, 10th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry of the Union Tennessee Volunteers. The 10th Regiment was organized at Nashville, Tenn., May to August, 1862. They were attached to Post and District of Nashville, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to June, 1863; 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, Reserve Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to September, 1863; Defenses of Nashville & Northwestern Railroad to January, 1864; 1st Brigade, Defenses of Nashville, Tenn., January, 1864; 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 12th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to April, 1864; 1st Brigade, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to April, 1865; and 1st Brigade, 4th Division, District of East Tennessee, to June, 1865. Private Cossey served as post and garrison duty at Nashville, Tenn., till September, 1863. He was ordered to Bridgeport, Ala., September 24, 1863. He returned to guard duty on Nashville & Northwestern Railroad, and garrison and guard duty at Nashville, Tenn., till April, 1865. Toward the end of the war private Cossey was ordered to Greenville April 24, 1865, and duty in District of East Tennessee till June. He mustered out June 23, 1865.
