    "Dankzij een uitvoerig genealogisch onderzoek heeft W. de Vries kunnen reconstrueren dat nakomelingen van Geuzen-Els inderdaad tot de familie Fabri behoorden. Uitgangspunt voor zijn zoektocht was een brief uit 1828, aanwezig in het archief van de Maatschappij tot Bevordering van Welstand te Breda. Deze maatschappij verleende steun aan landbouwers van protestantse huize in Brabant. In genoemde brief meldt ds. Jacob van Heusden uit Hilvarenbeek dat een zekere Peter Michael, een jonge boer uit Hogeloon (nabij Hapert), hem heeft verteld direct af te stammen van ‘de beroemde Geuze Els’ (De Vries, 325). Peter Michael wilde in aanmerking komen voor steun van de Maatschappij en meende kennelijk dat hij zijn ‘geloofsbrieven’ versterkte door zich te laten voorstaan op zijn afstamming van Geuzen-Els."
