Notes about Willem Steven "Willem" Overbeek

Willem werkte bij Stork-Hijsch in Hengelo, fabriek voor kranen, liften, transportinstallaties, enz. In 1932 werd de fabriek overgeplaatst naar Haarlem en gecombineerd met de werf Conrad. De arbeiders konden kiezen of ze mee wilden verhuizen. Willem en Dora besloten dit te doen. Wellicht met pijn in het hart, maar Nederland stond aan het begin van een enorme economische crisis. Deze keuze pakte gelukkig goed uit.

In de hongerwinter 1944/45, toen er in het westen van het land bijna geen eten meer was, bragt Willem zijn jongste twee kinderen onder in Delden. Eén bij zijn nicht Lien (Wilhelmina Grada Brinkatte) en één door bemiddeling van deze nicht.
