Here is the Obituary of Maria (Hargrove) Baskin - pasted in the same bible as the obit for Robert W. Baskin. In pencil the date Nov 1847 is noted:

Dies, in Perry, Houston county on the 30 or 31 instant, Mrs. Maria Baskin, wife of Robert W. Baskin and daughter of Hr. H. Hargrove, of said county about 40 yearsof age. She had been a member of the Baptist Church nearly 20 years and was considered as having made more than ordinary attainment in piety and usefulness. It was obvious to the writer, who knew her well as friend and pastor, that she was more and more comforting to the word of God as the "Man of her counsel", and becoming ready for another and better world. Her character was strongly marked. She posessed unusual firmness and decision, and was singularly candid in her intercourse with others. Her conduct and conversation reproved wrong in all, without exception; but, if she spoke of the impropriety of others it was surely in their presence. She always had some kind word for the absent. The influence which she exerted was good in every relation she sustained, and that influence was decidedly felt, but more especially in her own family. As a wife and mother, she had but few equals.

A few days after her death, a brother's son, a boy about 12 years old ,unusually promising was killed instantly at his father's gin. May the Lord comfort the sorely afflicted parents.
