Notes about Richard Gilstrap

Richard Gilstrap was born on May 6, 1768, to Peter Gilstrap and Mary Jane Bright in Craven County, North Carolina (Rowan County is also mentioned in several family files). I believe there were County line changes a few years before his birth, so records could possibly be in one or both counties. He was married on February 06, 1788 to Mary Truhet in Craven County, North Carolina. Richard and Mary had three children Peter, David, and William. Mary died in 1797 in North Carolina and Richard then married Nancy Ann Wright, the daughter of Benjamin Wright Sr. and Barbara Morgan, on May 24, 1797, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Richard and Nancy had at least thirteen more children: Sarah "Sally", Elizabeth M., Barbara, Aaron, Jeremiah M., Alexander, John David, Mary, Selah, Rachael, Wealthy, Sarina, and Levina. Richard and Nancy relocated to Kentucky and then to Washington County, Indiana where he lived until he died on December 18, 1835. Richard was buried in Gilstrap Cemetery in a private cemetery in Howard TWP., Washington County, Indiana. His wife Nancy died on April 10, 1860, and lies beside him for all eternity.
