Notes about Dafydd Gam ap Llewelyn

A Lancastrian partisan who was a prominent opponent of Owain Glyndwr, he was regarded as a traitor by some Welshmen and as a hero by others. He held his estate through the Bohun's Herefordshire honor, and was in service to Henry of Bolingbroke. His primary residence was his manor house at Llantilio Crossenny, near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, where the remains of the moat mark its location still, and a stained glass window in the north wall of the Church of St Teilo at Llantilio Crossenny attests to his memory.

A son of Llywelyn ap Hywel Fychan by his wife Mawd ferch Ieuan, his family were noted patrons of Welsh bards. By his wife Gwenllian ferch Gwilym ap Hywel Crach, he was the father of the beautiful Gwladys, Y Seren o y Venni (the Star of Abergavenny), who continued her family's bardic patronage.

Dafydd Gam was fourth in descent from Einion Sais ap Rhys (d. aft. 1271), lord of Pen-pont Castle in Brycheiniog, a descendant in the direct male line from Bleddyn ap Maenyrch (d. 1093), arglwydd of Brycheiniog.
