A Lancastrian partisan who was a prominent opponent of Owain Glyndwr, he was regarded as a traitor by some Welshmen and as a hero by others. He held his estate through the Bohun's Herefordshire honor, and was in service to Henry of Bolingbroke. His primary residence was his manor house at Llantilio Crossenny, near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, where the remains of the moat mark its location still, and a stained glass window in the north wall of the Church of St Teilo at Llantilio Crossenny attests to his memory.
