Notes about John Mathis

He was the son of Edmund Mathis and Unity Register Mathis. He married in 1827 to Jemima Lee b 1807 GA, dau of Joshua Lee. John and Jemima were living with their son, Ezekiel in 1870 Clinch, GA. Jemima died after 1870. Her burial site is unknown.
According to Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia vol 3 p 201, John owned land Lot 441, 7th Dist in Clinch Co, GA which John sold to his son, Ezekiel, in 1871 and continued to live there south of Dupont, Clinch Co, GA until a few years before his death when he went to Hamilton Co, FL to live with his son , John Jr. He died there and was buried at Prospect Cem, White Springs, Hamilton Co, FL. Note: Not Prospect Cem of Clinch, GA.
