Notes about Henry Castleberry Sr

Henry was the son of John Castleberry and Mary Ann Durham. The family bible of John Castleberry lists his son Henry's birth as Oct 14 1760.

According to Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass GA v 2, '...[Henry Sr 1760] having been granted bounty land [in Washington Co, GA] and removed to that county soon after the Revolutionary War.' In 1792 in Georgia, Henry [1760] is listed on the payroll of Capt John Hill's Co of Militia at Fort Martin in 1792. This indicates that Henry [1760] was GA resident prior to 1786 which was the end of the Revolutionary War.

Henry may not have remain in Washington Co, GA before appearing in Wilkerson Co., GA. A Henry Castleberry is listed in 1794 county tax list of Neal's Dist, Warren Co, GA, and this county was not created from Washington Co. NOTE: This may not be the Henry 1760 as several Henry's are found in various counties during this period.

By 1811, Henry's family are found in Wilkinson Co, GA created 1803 from Creek Indian Lands. Millie [wife of Sr] and his son, Henry Jr [1790], united [joined] with Ramah Prim Bap Ch of Wilkinson Co, GA in 1811.

Henry Castleberry as head of house is listed in Telfair, GA on Aug 7 1820 census. Household members: 1 male over 45; 1 male 16 to 25; 1 female 16 to 25; 1 female 10 to 15; 1 female under 10. There is NO FEMALE of Henry, Sr [1760] of age.

The Lowndes, GA 1830 census lists a Henry Castleberry [Jr 1790]with an adult male age 80-89 [Sr] in the home. This adult male is believed to be Henry Castleberry Sr 1760; the father of Henry Castleberry Jr 1790. 1840 Lowndes Co., GA lists Mourning Castleberry as head of house, but no males of the age of Henry Jr or Henry Sr. If this is correct, Henry Castleberry Sr 1760 would have died in Lowndes, GA now Cook, GA aft 1830 and bef 1840.

Henry Sr and Millie had five known children.

Henry Castleberry Sr 1760 is the 4th g-grandfather of Vernon Tripp former husband of Judy Cribb Tripp Annis.
