Notes about John Silas Allen

John was born to the Rev. James Lindsey/Henry and Mary (Polly) Woodruff Allen one of ten children. The town of Woodruff, SC was named in honor of her grandfather, Thomas Woodruff. James Lindsey was a Baptist minister both a professor and preacher. Several of his sons were PB preachers as well. Six of John's siblings also settled in NE Miss. starting in the early 1840s.
The US 1860 MS Itawamba Co. census showed his family members as: Cynthia L.(wife -45), Middleton(23), James G.(20), Pauline L.(18), Columbus M.(Born 1844-SC), Peter B./Otis(Born 1847-MS), Levenia/Leonora(10), Bodicia(8), Robert B.(6) and Joseph R.(Age 2). The 1870 census added Herbert(10) and Eugene(8) in the household, but appear to be his grandsons by his son Middleton Allen who died in 1862 at age 25. The 1860 census shows Middleton M.(age 22) and wife Ann with a son, Herbert M. age 2.
Per an Itawamba Co. MS marriage record, John Allen married Cintha Frames 20 Oct 1845. Thus, Cynthia is either a second wife or a legal marriage was delayed since according to the 1850 census the oldest four children were born between 1837 and 1844 in SC. If the 1860 census info. is correct John made it directly to MS abt 1845? Link to his father, JAMES HENRY, below for the names of his siblings. (There are those who think his Father was Micajah Allen, James's brother but I don't agree and would argue that it was rather another John Allen born 1815 in SC living in Itawamba Co. MS at the same time and interred in Salem Cem).
