--1--Note: In Marriage book 1 of Shelby County Kentucky page 54 "Prothero, Samuel and Esther Lewis, dau. of Jesse Lewis; M-6 Feb. 1812, B-William Prothero."e been records that showed Esther as the Daughter of Joseph Lewis (Jesse's Father). There was a will of Joseph's that named Esther as daughter of Joseph who married Samuel Prothero. Will was destoyed in fire during the Civil War.ew, Joseph Lewis, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Flood Lewis, with several male relatives, had gone to California suddenly in 1849, from their Missouri home. They were living near St. Josephs, MO, and got caught up in the excitement the Gold Rush generated, and joined the rush. I believe Samuel Prothero may have been in the company of Joseph Lewis in 1849, or joined the larger group which included wives and children of the first group who came west in 1852. After the Lewis family gave up gold prospecting, about 1857, they moved to Tulare Co., CA. A Prothero died in Visalia, Tulare Co., CA, in the late 1880's. Samuel and Elizabeth Flood Lewis are buried in the Old Visalia Cemetery. They died where Porterville now is in the 1860's, and were brought to Visalia for burial in the absense of an organized town or cemetery near their farm.
