Notes about Cornelius Drake

-1- James Witherspoon is listed as Fanny Witherspoon's bondsman in the marriage list in Mason Co., KY in 1803, and 4 years later, James Weatherspoon is listed as Mary Weatherspoon's bondman for her marriage to Nathaniel Ayers on December 10, 1807. I believe these James' to be the same individual, and Mary to be a sibling, most likely. rlc. John Witherspoon, and who came to Kentucky in her teens with her parents. Cornelius was raised to farming, and it received his lifetime attention. Soon after his marriage he came to Brown County, Ohio, where he settled in Pleasant Township and remained until his death in 1833. His widow survived him nearly 40 years. They were the parents of 15 Children--ten boys and five girls. One of the sons, Perry Drake, a teacher, farmer and handler of leaf tobacco, married Melissa Mefford, one of the 15 children of John W. and Ann (Pangburn) Mefford. They were the parents of three children: Louis H. Drake, Emma (married Thos. Dugan), and Minnie (married A. D. Pumpelly)."ond marriage to Arthur Kinnet. It is said to have been copied from Cornelius Drake's own Bible by Leona Jordan Hardy, who apparently has possession of the book. However, it is likely that the lineage from John forward is true. This takes this family to the early Drake settlers of Piscataway, New Jersey, and me to speculate from which family John, Ephraim and Hiram originated. I hope this speculation leads me or others to more substantial support for these early relationships as time evolves. RLC]
