The following is a post to SGM, 24 Feb 1999, by John Carmi Parsons:4lisbury. Some later historian apparently took the Anglo-Norman nickname to be a place-name of origin, meaning that the family would be of Norman origin despite Edward's obviously Anglo-Saxon personal name. "L'heureux" thus became "d'Evreux," though the Salisbury family never had anything to do with that region in Normandy.
