Baker in Sheridan until December of 1947. Worked at Smith's Bakery in
Bakersfield CA. Moved his family to Porterville CA. Moved in 1948 to
Strathmore CA. In 1948 purchased home on Ferry Street, Bakersfield
CA. Sold property on Ferry Street in 1969. Purchased home on Stine
Road. Retired from bakery at age 62. Operated gift shop and plywood/
lumber business.

Nicholas Voogd wrote in his note book that baby Donald was born today
June 20, 1908. But the diary also lists his birth as year 1909.
Donald Harold Voogd spent most of his young life in Sheridan Wyoming
where he met and married Gladys Rosalie Collins. They had seven
children and lived in Sheridan where he worked as a baker until
December of 1947. He took a job at Smith's Bakery in Bakersfield
California, moved his family to Porterville California then moved
again in 1948 to Strathmore California. In 1948 he purchased a home
on Ferry Street in Bakersfield California and moved the family there.
He eventually sold the propert on Ferry Street and purchased another
home on Stine Road in Bakersfield. He began to suffer from Emphysema
as well as problems with his vision due to a congenital eye problem
and elected to retire from the bakery at age 62. After he retired
from the bakery he operated a gift shop and a plwood/lumber business
while his wife Gladys operated a drapery business on their property
on Stine Road. In 1969 they sold the property on Stine Road and
purchased a home in Redding California and moved there in retirement,
although Gladys did continue to operate her drapery business at the
new home for a few more years.
