Het deel met de drie schoppen wijst vrijwel zeker op afstamming van de heren van Saint-Baud, de Beschard familie uit Bretagne.
Zoon Ralph neemt het wapen over en we zien dat de achtergrond azuurblauw is, net als het wapen van de Beschards.

De stippen, die we in het wapen van zoon Ralph slechts minimaal zien terugkomen, duiden ook op afstamming uit Bretagne. Een witte of zilveren schijf op azuurblauw werd gevoerd door hertogen uit Bretagne.
