Pat Baran, a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2018, in Santa Cruz, California, with her family at her side.
Pat was born on September 12, 1941. She was raised in Concord, CA, raised her own family in Los Gatos and, over thirty years ago, settled in Santa Cruz. She was a homemaker and also worked in real estate, office management, bookkeeping, and managed her own seven-unit Victorian.
Pat was a lover of the outdoors: She hiked Half Dome, backpacked, camped, fished many lakes and rivers, snorkeled, and spent much time at local beaches and forests. She was a regular at Boardwalk, Crow’s Nest, and Capitola summer concerts, where she liked to make bubbles. Pat enjoyed traveling the country and the world with family and friends. She loved creating beautiful things, from her mosaics to her fine needlework and beadwork, and making art with abalone shells. Her home was filled with color, light and rainbows. She was a fixer of things, doing much of her own home and rental repairs. She was devoted to her kitty, Mr. Three. She loved life.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Debbie Liles; grandsons, Samuel Hamilton, Jackson Hamilton, and Maxwell Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law Linda Rushing and Darrell Rushing; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael Liles and Ki Bowman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Merrilee Fearnow and Danny Fearnow; sister-in-law, Pat Karpinski; and many much-loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, David Allen Liles; husband, John Baran; parents Frank Funderburg and Bessie Funderburg Nelson; brother, Joe Funderburg; and sisters Betty Hughes and Wanda Chapman.
